Korie McGreevy | McGreevy Triumphs at Donington Park.

Century Racing’s Korie McGreevy took his first victory of the 2019 season in today’s thrilling Superstock 600 race at Donington Park. Astro-JJR Racing’s Shane Richardson took an impressive 2nd place, with Clifford Racing’s Aaron Clifford taking 3rd.

Round 3 of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship was hosted at Donington Park. After a troublesome beginning to his season, championship favourite, Korie McGreevy had a lot to prove.

McGreevy’s weekend got off to an arduous start, as he found himself with tonsillitis and flu symptoms on Friday morning.

Despite feeling unwell, McGreevy posted a lap time of 1:10:987, placing him 3rd for FP1. An extremely strong base to work from for the rest of the weekend.

A strong FP2 session left McGreevy 3rd overall for day 1 at Donington Park, with a time of 1:10:342. A heavy crash at Craner Curves, in which McGreevy lost the front, left Century Racing team with some work to do before Saturday’s qualifying session.

McGreevy credited his team for working tirelessly through the night to have his bike ready to qualify. McGreevy managed a time of 1:10:443, which placed him 6th on the grid for Sunday’s race. McGreevy commented that his qualifying session had been blighted by a recurring problem he had struggled with through FP1 and FP2.

McGreevy and the Century Racing team worked to make major changes for the final timed practise session before the race. A time of 1:10:416 put McGreevy top of the pile, giving him an all-important confidence boost, ensuring that he had the pace, before the race.

A good start to the race saw McGreevy making solid progress, meaning he could get away with the race leaders. McGreevy admitted this had been “one of the best races of his life”. The majority of this 20 lap race was spent battling with Richardson and Clifford for the lead. With it all still to play for going into the last corner, McGreevy got crucial drive out of the corner, beating Richardson to the line by 0.03s.

Starting his weekend in ill health and with a crash, McGreevy thanked his sponsors for their continued support, as well as IMR Racing, Derek Mclaughlin, Kia McGreevy and Kirsten Mclaughlin for providing him the best bike for the race. He also gave his thanks to the BSB Medical team for their assistance throughout the weekend.

McGreevy heads into round 4 at Brands Hatch with a new lap record for Donington Park, a victory and his first points of the 2019 season scored. He will look to carry this impressive form forward. With a 30 point deficit to overcome to the top of the championship, McGreevy will be looking for another weekend of success.

Next Round -> Brands Hatch 14th-16th June.
